For the sixth year in a row, the Latvian Badminton Federation will determine the winners of the Latvian Badminton Award 2020. From December 23 to December 31, the 1st round of Internet voting will take place, but from January 1 to January 7, the 2nd round. The Latvian Badminton Award 2020 will be presented in an online ceremony on January 8.
Everyone will be able to vote in the 1st round until December 31 at 18:00. In the 1st round, all nominations will have an open vote, voters will have to enter their answer in free form. In the 2nd round of voting, which will start on January 1 and end on January 7 at 18:00, three answer variants will be included, while in the 3rd round the results of the vote will be approved by the respective commissions of the Latvian Badminton Federation, the members of the Board responsible for the field and the Board as a whole.
Traditionally, the Latvian Badminton Award are presented in 20 nominations, but the number of prizes made is 21, because two Badminton players receive the “Pair” Award at the same time. There is currently no list of 20 nominations, as there are some nominations that change every year, such as “Supporter”, “Parents”, “Manager”, “Ambassador”, “Organization” and “Rising Star”. The Board of the Latvian Badminton Federation has determined the 20 nominations this year, evaluating the results of the 1st round voting.
“This is a special year for Covid-19. There was also a proposal not to award this year. However, despite the restrictions, competitions have taken place, Latvian players have participated in World and European ranking tournaments. Players have trained, coaches have trained. There have been competitions. We have something to be proud of. We will also evaluate it. And we will not award prizes in nominations where nothing special has happened this year, ”explains Gunārs Lūsveris, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Badminton Federation.
So far, the Latvian Badminton Award 2020 have been received by “Player”, “Junior”, “Senior”, “Coach”, “Technical official”, “School”, “University”, “Event” and “Achievement”, “Pair”, “Club”, “Media” and “Municipality”, “Example”, “The most active”, as well as award for a Lifetime contribution.
Also this year, the design of the award created by the Secretary General of the Latvian Badminton Federation Kristians Rozenvalds will be preserved – it is a candlestick in the form of a badminton shuttlecock, which is made of white clay by Jelgava potter Una Ļaha.
In order to promote participation in the Internet voting, the general sponsor of the Latvian Badminton Federation “Yonex” will motivate the activity of voters with a lottery prize – “Yonex” sports backpack. The winner will be chosen by lottery in an online ceremony on January 8. There will also be a special prize – a weekend with “Renault” from “Mūsa Motors Rīga”, which will be received by the voter whose vote will most accurately coincide with the final result.
