
A new leadership of the Lithuanian Badminton Federation is elected at the General Assembly in Vilnius on October 16. The creative entrepreneur Aurimas Kamantauskas was elected new president of the Lithuanian Badminton Federation. “Let us bring a new generation of Olympians together!” was the slogan of the new president during the elections. The former president Vilmantas Liorančas was elected vice president. Vaidotas Sruogis will continue to be Secretary General of the Lithuanian Badminton Federation.
The Statute of the Lithuanian Badminton Federation states that the Secretary General is also an official of the federation elected by the members of the General Assembly.
The General Assembly of the Lithuanian Badminton Federation take place every year, but the management of the federation is elected every four years, every Olympic cycle. In 2020 the Olympic Games did not take place, but given the fact that the previous Federation’s management mandate expired on 1 November 2020, the elections were held earlier this year without waiting for an evaluation of the Olympic Games and the Olympic cycle.
Lithuanian Badminton have experience of the Olympics in the recent past. In 2008, Akvile Stapusaityte and Kestutis Navickas participated in the badminton tournament of the Beijing Olympic Games. Kestutis Navickas loss by Lee Chong Wei in the 1/8 finals. Akvile Stapusaityte was already included among the players who qualified for the Rio Olympics.
The General Assembly was also approved Kestutis Navickas as new chairperson of the Coach Commission and Živilė Simonaitytė as new chairperson of the Umpires Commission.
The General Assembly decided to increase the composition of the Executive Committee of the Lithuanian Badminton Federation to 13 members, including the president, vice-president, secretary-general, as well as the chairpersons of Umpires Commission and Coach Commission.
