Badminton Scotland cancel all competitions until end of February

Due to the current situation with Covid 19 and the guidance provided by the Scottish Government and Sport Scotland, Badminton Scotland made the decision to cancel all ranking competitions until the end of February 2021.

Unfortunately, this affects two national events – the Senior National Championships scheduled for 5-7 February and the National Disability Championships scheduled for 30 January.

Badminton Scotland intend for both the Senior and Disability Nationals to be postponed and played later in the year, but this will depend on the guidelines set out by the Government in response to Covid 19 and therefore dates and venues for both events are to be confirmed.

Badminton Scotland do not take these decisions lightly but with the travel restrictions in place across the country and the limit on the number of players who are able to compete in any particular event, running national or other ranking events is currently impossible.

However, it is possible for regions of the country in levels 1-3 to organise local competitions and events for players aged 17 and under, as well as for regions in levels 1 and 2 to organise local competitions and events for adults aged 18 and over. Activity can include both singles and doubles and must be organised according to the guidelines we have developed in conjunction with sportscotland which can be found on our website.

Badminton Scotland continue to monitor and review the situation and will provide further updates as and when appropriate but if you require further information or guidance about running competitions or events in a Covid-secure way, contact Peter Dean, Head of Events at Badminton Scotland.
