Swiss Badminton will specify the 2020/2021 season in mid-December

In the hope that the COVID-19 situation in Switzerland will relax enough that the measures can be relaxed again (especially the lifting of the mask requirement in popular sports), the Swiss Badminton will wait until mid-December to make the decision to resume tournament operations in January 2021.

It is up to the clubs whether they want to continue planning their tournaments planned for January 2021 with the current state of knowledge and wait for the final decision on the possible resumption of the Swiss Badminton tournament in mid-December.

Currently, double is not possible (only with mask) and tournaments with max 50 participants possible but not recommended. A division into groups of max 15 people are required, distance and mask requirement must be observed.

Swiss Championships Elite

The Swiss Elite Championships are valued by the federal government as a competitive sport and can therefore be carried out as planned. Swiss Badminton will now clarify with the organizers whether the cantons will approve these events.

Youth tournaments

According to the Covid-19 regulation, it is currently not allowed for children under 16 to take part in competitions. This would require an adaptation of the said regulation. In all probability, this will not happen before January 2021. It is currently not yet clear whether the Junior  tournaments in January, which should have taken place in Arlesheim in December, can be held on the date planned for the Swiss Badminton Junior Series in Arlesheim.

Swiss Badminton will also make this decision in mid-December and will provide information on how to proceed. More information on registration will follow shortly.

Swiss Kids Trophy 2021

Swiss Badminton decided to hold the Swiss Kids Trophy for the first time in 2022 under the new format. The Swiss Kids Trophy 2021 will therefore not take place.

Interclub

Regular championship operations are expected to resume in the first week of January 2021. This is based on the assumption that double is possible again without a mask. Thus, the season break is expected to be extended until December 31, 2020.

Should there be any adjustments due to the current Covid-19 situation, Swiss Badminton will inform again in mid-December.

Upper & Lower Leagues

In the hope that the Covid-19 situation in Switzerland will relax so much that the measures can be relaxed again (especially the lifting of the mask requirement in popular sport), the championship operation is expected to resume in the first week of January 2021. Missed / not played games in the first half of the season should be made up as quickly as possible so that the regular season can ideally be completed on schedule. When determining the date, the clubs should have and show maximum flexibility, which is why Swiss Badminton does not impose any restrictions on the dates. The definitive end date of the season will be announced at a later date.

National Leadue

Regular championship operations are expected to resume in the first week of January 2021. This does not apply to supplementary games of the first half of the season, which take place on the weekend of 19/20. December 2020 are possible if both teams agree and the current situation at the intended venue allows this option.

The aim is to finish the first half of the season (quickly). This makes it possible for Swiss Badminton, depending on the situation, to take an actual picture and to check how the second half of the season can be played.

The regular game dates for rounds 5, 6 (November 14/15) and 7 (November 29) are canceled. They should be made up on the dates of rounds 8/9 (9./10.1.) and 10 (14.2.). As far as possible, the home rights should be retained.

The second half of the season is now as follows:
March 6, 2021 – Round 11
March 7, 2021 – Round 12
March 20, 2021 – Round 13
March 21, 2021 – Round 14

The regular end of the season was planned for March 21, 2021 (round 14), after which the playoff semifinals (April 10/11, 2021) and finals (May 8/9, 2021) should have taken place with the four best teams of the season. The regular season now ends in April instead of March 21st. The following new fixed dates are thus defined for the three remaining laps:
April 10, 2021 – Round 8
April 11, 2021 – Round 9
April 17, 2021 – Round 10

The playoff semifinals and the final are expected to be new on 8/9. May 2021 and 15./16. May 2021 disputed. The definitive schedule will be drawn up in due course and the data will be communicated accordingly, so the season is expected to end by the end of May 2021 at the latest.
